SmackDown May 1 2026: Full Segment-By-Segment Breakdown

Cody Rhodes Announces Medical Clearance — Ricky Saints Interrupts

The show opened with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes revealing he has been medically cleared to compete following his orbital injury at WrestleMania 42. Before Rhodes could address what’s next, Ricky Saints interrupted to make his SmackDown debut. Saints declared himself “the hottest, newest, flyest SmackDown free agent” and told Rhodes he’s here to “relieve him of his championship duties,” calling the show “Friday Night Saints.” Rhodes responded by challenging Saints to a match tonight. The two shook hands, but Saints stopped in the ropes to deliver one final message: “I didn’t come out here to make a statement. I came here to change who the show is about.”

Jacy Jayne def. Charlotte Flair — Fatal Influence Stands Tall Again

The biggest upset of the night. Jacy Jayne defeated Charlotte Flair by pinfall with Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid at ringside. Flair controlled early with chops and attempted the Figure 8, but Jayne escaped to ringside. After the commercial break, Jayne took control with targeted offence before Flair mounted a comeback. The finish saw Fatal Influence’s numbers advantage prove decisive, with Jayne capitalising on a distraction to pin The Queen cleanly.

Post-match, Fatal Influence attacked Flair, and Alexa Bliss ran down for the save but was quickly overwhelmed. Rhea Ripley then made her entrance to even the odds, clearing the ring of all three members of Fatal Influence. In an unexpected moment, Charlotte Flair offered Ripley a handshake — and Ripley accepted. The alliance between the two rivals against Fatal Influence is now official. Earlier in the night, Ripley had approached Flair and Bliss backstage to propose working together, but Flair initially rejected the idea. The post-match handshake reversed that.

Next week’s SmackDown will feature Rhea Ripley, Charlotte Flair, and Alexa Bliss vs Fatal Influence (Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley, and Lainey Reid) — confirmed for the May 8 go-home show before Backlash.

Danhausen Steals $40k — The Miz And Kit Wilson Attack

Kit Wilson set up a Looney Tunes-style trap with $40,000 in “free human monies” to catch Danhausen. Danhausen avoided the trap entirely, walked away with all the cash, and the trap backfired on Wilson and The Miz. Later in the show, The Miz teased aligning with Danhausen before he and Wilson attacked him. Danhausen asked GM Nick Aldis for a match against The Miz, but Aldis instead booked a tag team match — Danhausen and a mystery partner vs The Miz and Kit Wilson, pending Danhausen finding a tag partner.

Damian Priest & R-Truth (c) def. Fraxiom — WWE Tag Team Championship Retained; Talla Tonga Attacks

The tag team champions retained against Axiom and Nathan Frazer in a competitive 10-minute match. Priest finished with a Razor’s Edge on Axiom for the pinfall. Earlier backstage, Priest offered Fraxiom the title match after a miscommunication — R-Truth had actually been giving Fraxiom tax advice, not arranging a title shot.

Post-match, Talla Tonga stormed the ring on Solo Sikoa’s orders and attacked all four men — Priest, Truth, Axiom, and Frazer — leaving bodies everywhere.

Solo Sikoa Declares Jacob Fatu “A Dead Man Walking” — The Usos Beaten Down

After the tag title match, Solo Sikoa cut a promo about Fatu’s attack on MFT last week. Sikoa said Fatu made a “huge mistake” by taking out his army and his family. The Usos interrupted, with Jimmy telling Sikoa that Roman Reigns’ issue with Fatu takes priority over Sikoa’s grievances. Sikoa disagreed, ordered Talla Tonga to take care of The Usos, and Tonga beat down both Jimmy and Jey. Sikoa then declared: “Tell Roman he ain’t my Tribal Chief. We don’t give a damn what he says.”

Royce Keys def. Angel Garza

Royce Keys won a quick singles match against Angel Garza. Keys dominated from the bell, hitting an avalanche scoop slam for the decisive pinfall. After the match, Keys crossed paths with Jacob Fatu backstage in an interesting tease — the two revisited their shared history. Talla Tonga and Solo Sikoa then attacked both men, connecting the Keys and Fatu storylines.

Paige & Brie Bella (c) def. Nia Jax & Lash Legend — Women’s Tag Team Championship Retained

The Women’s Tag Team Champions successfully defended against The Irresistible Forces. Lash Legend powered through Brie Bella early, but Paige got the hot tag and connected with the PaigeTurner on Legend. Nia Jax broke the pin and hit a corner splash on Brie. When Jax climbed for the Annihilator, Paige kicked her off the turnbuckle, and Brie rolled up Jax for the winning pinfall.

Cody Rhodes def. Ricky Saints — GUNTHER ATTACKS RHODES POST-MATCH

The most consequential match of the night. Cody Rhodes defeated Ricky Saints in Saints’ debut match on SmackDown. Saints impressed throughout, delivering confident mic work earlier in the night and holding his own against the champion in the ring. Rhodes won cleanly, cementing his status as the top star on SmackDown while Saints lost nothing in defeat — the match established him as a legitimate main roster competitor from night one. Gunther’s attack on Rhodes was a statement from one of the fastest-rising earners on the roster — see the full WWE wrestlers salary list 2026 for where Gunther’s $3-3.5 million deal ranks.

Smackdown results Cody Rhodes Gunther

The real story came after the bell. Gunther appeared out of nowhere and attacked Rhodes, choking out the Undisputed WWE Champion in a shocking post-match assault. Gunther — who had been a Raw superstar — stood tall over Rhodes holding the championship belt as the crowd erupted. This was Gunther’s first appearance on SmackDown in months and immediately inserts him into the Undisputed WWE Championship picture. The CBS Sports prediction of Rhodes vs CM Punk at Backlash may now be shelved in favour of a Rhodes vs Gunther programme.

Sami Zayn Massacres The Gingerbread Man — Backlash Match Confirmed

In a segment that defied explanation, Sami Zayn destroyed the Gingerbread Man character. A memorial graphic for the Gingerbread Man’s “death” was shown, and a funeral will be held next week. Zayn confronted Nick Aldis about the situation and demanded a match at Backlash. Aldis agreed. Sami Zayn’s Backlash opponent was confirmed, though the full details of the match were kept vague for maximum absurdity.

Jacob Fatu Solo Sikoa Smackdown results may 1 2026 full results

MFT (Solo Sikoa & Talla Tonga) def. The Usos — JACOB FATU DESTROYS EVERYONE

The main event saw Solo Sikoa and Talla Tonga defeat Jimmy and Jey Uso in a tag team match. Sikoa and Tonga dominated, with Talla landing a Samoan Drop on Jimmy and Sikoa cutting off Jey’s hot tag attempts. The Usos fought back — Jey hit a suicide dive and Cross Body on Sikoa — but MFT’s aggression proved too much. Sikoa pinned one of The Usos to close the match.

Then Jacob Fatu arrived. Fatu attacked Talla Tonga with the steel steps, applied the Tongan Death Grip to Sikoa, and when Talla made the save, Fatu caught him and dropped him through the announce table with a Samoan Drop. Fatu then walked through The Usos without attacking them — a loaded moment that planted seeds for a potential future confrontation. Fatu grabbed the mic and delivered a warning to The Usos: “Tell Reigns to watch out.” SmackDown ended with Fatu standing tall for the third consecutive week.
