Ambati Rayudu
The biggest MI-to-CSK success story. Rayudu won three IPL titles with Mumbai before moving to Chennai in 2018, where he became a cornerstone of the middle order under MS Dhoni. He added three more titles with CSK, finishing his career with six IPL trophies β joint-most in IPL history.
Dwayne Bravo
Few remember Bravo’s early MI days, where he played 26 matches across three seasons and even captained the side once. CSK snapped him up in 2011, and the rest is history β four IPL titles, cult-hero status, and over a decade of yellow dominance made Bravo a CSK legend.
Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan was a pillar of MI’s bowling attack for a decade, captaining the side and winning multiple titles. When the franchise moved towards younger players, the veteran off-spinner joined CSK in 2018 and played a key role in their comeback title that season.
Ashish Nehra
Nehra started his IPL career with Mumbai in 2008 before stints with Delhi Daredevils and Pune Warriors. He found his second wind at CSK, taking 30 wickets in 20 matches across two seasons, including 22 in 2015 alone β one of the best single-season hauls by a CSK pacer. He even earned an India recall on the back of that form.
Dwayne Smith
Smith had two stints with MI, notably smashing a crucial cameo in a chase against CSK during his time in blue. He later joined the Super Kings and formed a productive opening partnership with Brendon McCullum, giving CSK some memorable powerplay fireworks.
Robin Uthappa
Uthappa played MI’s inaugural IPL season in 2008 before being swapped to RCB the following year. After journeying through RCB, Pune Warriors, KKR, and Rajasthan Royals, he landed at CSK in 2021 and played a crucial 63 in the Qualifier against Delhi Capitals, helping Chennai march to their fourth title.
Krishnappa Gowtham
Gowtham was bought by MI for the 2017 season but never got a game. After impactful stints with Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings, CSK signed him for a record-breaking βΉ9.25 crore in 2021, making him the most expensive uncapped player in IPL history at the time. His impact at CSK, however, remained limited.
Dewald Brevis
‘Baby AB’ burst onto the IPL scene with MI in 2022 after a record-breaking U19 World Cup. He played 10 matches across two seasons for Mumbai but went unsold in the mega auction before CSK picked him up as a replacement in 2025. He has since established himself as one of the most explosive middle-order batters in T20 cricket. Brevis missed the early part of CSK’s IPL 2026 campaign due to fitness concerns but has since returned to the playing XI.

Akash Madhwal
The latest addition to this exclusive list. Madhwal announced himself with sensational figures of 5/5 in the 2023 IPL Eliminator against LSG during his debut season with MI. After a stint with Rajasthan Royals in 2025, he went unsold in the 2026 auction. CSK signed him as a replacement for the injured Ayush Mhatre, with the announcement coming just hours before the MI vs CSK clash at Wankhede on April 23.
