Vaibhav Suryavanshi will miss the remainder of Bihar’s Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign despite his record-breaking 190, as he has travelled to Delhi for the Prime Minister’s National Children’s Award ceremony and will then join India U19 preparations for the upcoming U19 World Cup.
Why Vaibhav Suryavanshi is missing the rest of the Vijay Hazare Trophy
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 14-year-old batting prodigy, will not feature in the remainder of Bihar’s Vijay Hazare Trophy matches following his historic 190-run knock earlier this week. The left-hander was absent from the Bihar vs Manipur Vijay Hazare Trophy match, where his team batted first without him and posted a total of 284.
Suryavanshi’s childhood coach Manish Ojha confirmed that the youngster had travelled to New Delhi to attend the Prime Minister’s National Children’s Award ceremony. The event is being held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to honour the awardees. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to interact with the children receiving the award.
The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is India’s highest civilian honour for children aged between 5 and 18, awarded annually for exceptional achievements across various fields, including sports.
Ojha added that after the ceremony, Suryavanshi will link up with the rest of the India Under-19 squad and travel to Zimbabwe for preparatory matches ahead of the Under-19 World Cup, which begins on January 15. As a result, he will miss the remainder of Bihar’s Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s last appearance in the tournament came against Arunachal Pradesh, where he smashed 190 off 84 balls, hitting 16 fours and 15 sixes as Bihar posted a world-record 574/6 in 50 overs. He reached his century in just 36 balls, becoming the youngest centurion in List A history and surpassing AB de Villiers’ record for the fastest 150 in the format.
