In bowling-first games like today’s SRH vs RR clash, Sooryavanshi is likely to be introduced as a batting substitute when RR’s chase begins.

Why is Shimron Hetmyer not playing today against SRH? Unlike Sooryavanshi, Hetmyer is genuinely out of the match entirely. He has been rested, with RR captain Riyan Parag confirming at the toss that the West Indian has been given a break.

What happened to Shimron Hetmyer? He had a forgettable outing in the last match against RCB, falling for a golden duck when he was caught off Krunal Pandya attempting a pull on the very first ball he faced. While one bad innings is unlikely to be the sole reason for being dropped, RR may have decided this was the ideal game to give Pretorius exposure while keeping Hetmyer fresh for the back end of the tournament.
Hetmyer is named on the bench but will not feature as impact player either — Sooryavanshi is the designated impact sub for the batting innings.
